Product Information

Introducing the DME Unlock service provided by FEMTO in Finland. All BMW (and Toyota GR Supra) vehicles with a production date on or after 06/2020 require the FEMTO unlock before any flash-based tuning is possible. At this time, these models cannot be bench unlocked in-house.

Once your MEVD17.x.x and MG1 series DME is unlocked, OBD based flash tuning will be possible on platforms such as bootmod3 (BM3), MHD Tuning, MG Flasher and more.

Why do I need a FEMTO DME Unlock?

Starting June 2020 and onward, all BMW DMEs produced were shipped with an updated bootloader that rendered OBD flash tuning using existing protocols impossible. For a short time, there was no solution for this problem. Currently, as the community still anxiously waits for a localised DME Unlock for MG1 DMEs, there is a solution available. The company known as FEMTO offers a mail-in service now known as the FEMTO DME Unlock. This unlocks your DME, making OBD flash tuning/programming possible. 


Unlock Process Outline (Mail-In)*

  1. Purchase the FEMTO DME Unlock from our store. You are purchasing the DME unlock which is inclusive of international shipping from and to SouthernBM. The return freight cost of your DME is included, but the initial cost to have your DME removed and shipped to us is not. 
  2. For those planning on running BM3, you must create an account and activate your vehicle prior to removing your DME.
  3. Remove your DME from your vehicle.
  4. Send your DME to our Moorabbin facility for preparation/dispatching.
  5. Wait 10-15 business days for your DME to be shipped to Finland, unlocked and returned to us.
  6. Your DME will then be tested/inspected and returned to you.
  7. Re-install your DME to the vehicle, check everything is functioning correctly.
  8. Flash the vehicle using your prefer tuning platform.

*An in-house DME removal service is also available to Melbourne customers for an additional cost. Please contact us for further information.


Important Additional Information

A tuning license for bootmod3, MHD Tuning or MG Flasher is NOT included in the purchase price of the FEMTO DME Unlock. A BM3 tuning license can additional be purchased here.

For those using bootmod3, a BM3 License & VIN must be activated before sending us your DME. BM3 CustomROM will not be able to load if your license is not activated and VIN of your car is not in the BM3 user database.

The additional 'Remote Start' option is required for any models that already have Remote Start activated that you which to retain. Selecting this option will not activate Remote Start on models that don't already have it activated. This is now available to be done as a no cost option from FEMTO.

'Over The Air' (OTA) updates must be disabled in iDrive to prevent accidental tune removal, in which an FEMTO DME Unlock will again be required.

Your DME will be shipped to FEMTO via DHL Express, where it will be unlocked and returned to our facility in Moorabbin, Victoria. The normal turnaround time for this service about 10-15 business days, but further delays outside of our control are possible.

N63TU and S63TU V8 models have two DMEs that must be unlocked which incurs an additional cost. Please ensure you select the suitable unlock service for your vehicle at checkout and have both DMEs sent to us.

SouthernBM bares no responsibility for any DMEs that are improperly shipped to us and found to be damaged or faulty upon arrival.
