HOW TO DETERMINE WHICH AUDIO SYSTEM YOUR VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH
BASE STEREO SOUND SYSTEM¹
The base level stereo system is standard on most Australian delivered BMW models. Specifics vary by vehicle, but this audio system is generally characterised by the absence of an external amplifier and typically includes 6–8 total speakers, often without tweeters. Overall sound quality is generally quite limited compared to BMW's upgraded audio systems.
There is no specific option code for the Base Stereo system.
HI-FI SOUND SYSTEM - S676A
The Hi-Fi Speaker System comes standard on only a few Australian delivered models. Although the exact configuration varies from vehicle to vehicle, this system is generally characterised by approximately 10 speakers and an external amplifier, but without user-adjustable DSP processing or advanced equaliser settings.
The option code for this system in a VIN search is S676A.
HARMAN KARDON SOUND SYSTEM - S674A/S688A
If your BMW has Harman Kardon badges on the interior speaker grilles, then your vehicle is equipped with the Harman Kardon audio system.
If you do not see these badges, then your vehicle is not equipped with this system.
The option code for this system in a VIN search is typically S688A. On some earlier models such as the 1 Series and 2 Series, option code S674A may be installed instead. Both codes refer to BMW's Harman Kardon premium audio system.
TOP HI-FI / LOGIC7 / PROFESSIONAL DSP - S677A¹
This is BMW's premium audio system, referred to internally as Top Hi-Fi or Hi-Fi System Professional DSP.
Depending on the model and year of your BMW, this system may also be marketed under names such as Logic7, Premium DSP, or Professional DSP.
If your vehicle is equipped with one of these systems, or your VIN search shows option code S677A, then your BMW has this audio system.
If you own an M model BMW (M3, M5, etc.), your vehicle may instead be equipped with DIRAC or Enhanced Premium Sound (EPS). Please review the sections below or check with your dealer to confirm.
DIRAC SOUND SYSTEM - S752A²
Available only on certain BMW M models such as the M3, M5, and M6, the DIRAC system was BMW's highest-tier audio system at the time and positioned above the standard premium audio offerings.
Compared to the Top Hi-Fi (S677A) system, DIRAC systems feature upgraded speakers, a more powerful amplifier, additional DSP processing, and improved crossover design.
DIRAC systems can often be identified by silver trim rings around the door speakers and a metallic silver speaker cone visible through the front speaker grilles.
ENHANCED PREMIUM SOUND - S752A²
Also available only on certain BMW M models, Enhanced Premium Sound replaced the earlier DIRAC system as BMW’s highest-end audio option.
Compared to the standard premium systems (Logic7 or Harman Kardon), Enhanced Premium Sound features upgraded speakers, a more powerful amplifier, additional DSP processing, and improved crossover hardware.
Enhanced Premium Sound can be difficult to identify visually as it typically uses the same speaker locations as other premium BMW systems.

Can I purchase just the subwoofer enclosure? I already have an amplifier and subwoofer.
Unfortunately not. Bavsound Ghost Subwoofer systems are engineered as complete units, with each component optimised for BMW factory enclosures. As a result, individual components are not available separately.
Will the Ghost Underseat Subwoofers make a big impact in bass response in my BMW?
