At the heart of the system is our custom-designed, 3D printed stainless steel 'Z' Pipe, featuring an innovative internal crossover configuration that strategically splits and merges exhaust pulses from each bank of cylinders.
Unlike conventional single mid-pipe designs that combine exhaust gases into one continuous stream, our unique 'Z' Pipe allows for controlled interaction between exhaust pulses, promoting improved frequency harmonisation and a more balanced exhaust note.
Utilising advanced metal 3D printing technology, this intricate internal geometry achieves smooth, precisely engineered transitions that would be extremely difficult to manufacture through traditional exhaust fabrication methods. The result is a sophisticated crossover design that optimises exhaust pulse interaction while maintaining efficient gas flow.

The factory BMW exhaust configuration produces a distinctive, often harsh metallic rasp, particularly noticeable under acceleration and at higher engine speeds.
Our SouthernBM Performance 'Z' Mid-Pipe is designed to address these characteristics, delivering a deeper, fuller and more aggressive exhaust tone while reducing unwanted high-frequency rasp.
Rather than simply increasing exhaust volume, the system focuses on refining the natural sound of the S58 engine, producing a more composed exhaust note during everyday driving while retaining an aggressive character under load.
By eliminating the factory secondary catalytic converters, the system also reduces exhaust restriction and removes unnecessary weight from the factory exhaust configuration.
