All car makers, including BMW, would prefer to have an owner of their product comes to their dealerships for a service. This means that the dealership can keep track of what has been done, what items have been checked, and what may have needed to have been replaced or, worse, repaired.

Dealership staff undergo stringent training regimes and have to pass many tests before being put into a service area. What this gives a dealership’s service staff is a great pool of knowledge and a need to be the master of all.
In no way is this a bad thing. However, there will be a possibility that a dealership staff list may not have that “out of the box” knowledge, especially when it comes to older cars or that niggle that a specialist workshop can find when a dealership can’t.
