SouthernBM is an authorised retailer of the Eventuri brand, a UK based manufacturer of replacement engine intake systems. The team recently had the joyous opportunity of fitting three linked yet separate Eventuri parts to a pristine BMW E92 M3.
The owner had selected the Eventuri trio of a Carbon Fibre Airbox Lid, Carbon Intake System, and Carbon Plenum. These are premium grade patent pending products, and are designed to be a quality bolt on replacement for the OEM parts.
The first part of the upgrade sees the SouthernBM workshop ensure they take care of the E92’s forward flanks. Safety covers are carefully placed before the good-looking standard factory intake plenum is unbolted.
A quick visual inspection of the plenum itself and the new carbon fibre unit is carefully lowered and slotted into place. Inside the new cover are eight intake trumpets, and Eventuri have matched the precise factory specifications here by keeping these trumpets as per BMW’s original specifications, as any change could adversely affect the airflow management.
This 100% prepreg (carbon fibre and a resin injection) plenum unlocks an increase in something BMW owners know and love: that raspy snarl when driven with passion. Eventuri undertook plenty of testing with different variations of the thickness to get the oh-so-desirable rortiness.
Next up was the removal of the standard air intake, and the fitment of the Eventuri version. They investigated the beautifully designed OEM part and found that subtle tweaks to the design of the inlet tube would unlock an extra 5 to 10 kilowatts and 15 to 20 Nm of torque. The redesign also increased the cooling factor of the airflow, with a downward margin of around 3 degrees celcius.
The package looks superb and comes in an easy to assemble six-part package, including a striking blood red air filter and carbon fibre intake scoop that’s visible from the outside.
The final piece of this jigsaw was Eventuri’s Carbon Airbox Lid. Just as the other two sections are, this airbox is 100% prepreg manufactured, and has been tuned to provide a backup to the new intake plenum, with a reduction of interference in airflow allowing the induction system’s aurally pleasing yowl to be heard properly. This upgrade is one that adds more value than its cost for the overall result.
Naturally, the team had to make sure their efforts and Eventuri’s premium products are fully functional, so what better way that to take this beautiful E92 M3 for a drive and sample that set of evocative noises.
